YouTube just published the Global top trending videos of 2012 and made a video paying a homage to all of them:
Although it’s not a surprise that the reigning king of YouTube is Psy with his pop song Gangnam Style, if I have to judge what the world is watching by content I would say KONY 2012 would be the best among the top 10 videos. Made by Invisible Children Inc. and although it is about this organization represented on the video by Jason Russell denouncing the crimes and atrocities committed by the LRA and his leader Joseph Koni (honestly it is very worth watching)… I would say among with the message, the opening reflexion about how the new technology together with the new tools of mass communication are reshaping humanity deserve our attention.
In the music department with all the catchy tunes Psy could have and all the derrière and passioned leg and feet movement of the violin girl the best music video among them all would be the cover of “somebody that I used to know” by Walk Off The Earth. Why? because it is ingenious, modest and it sticks to the whole YouTube idea: a Camera, a group of people in front of it and pure talent!
The funniest video without a doubt would be WHY YOU ASKING ALL THEM QUESTIONS? by #FCHW. Although special mention as a payoff video should be given to “Facebook Parenting: For the troubled teen” by Tommy Jordan, a man who video records himself after finding out a nasty note of his daughter addressed to her parents. What we see is his thoughts and reaction to this note.
